Cricket trivia questions written for an Australian summer

Cricket turns up in an imported trivia box about as often as summer turns up in a British January — and when it does, the question is usually about a county side nobody at your table has ever watched. Meanwhile there is a whole Australian cricketing summer that everyone in the room has lived through: the Test on in the background all day, the radio on in the car, the backyard arguing about one hand one bounce. Those are the questions this deck asks.

The Australian Cricket theme is two decks of original cards — one for adults, one pitched at kids 8 and up — with six cricket categories on every single card. Test cricket and the Big Bash sit alongside the one-dayers, the batting, the bowling, and the off-field antics that Australians tend to remember far more clearly than any scorecard. Because a card carries six questions at once, you can hand one to the person who watches every session and one to the person who turns up for the fireworks.

The kids deck matters more than it sounds. Cricket is a game children absorb sideways — off the telly in the corner, off a plastic bat in the driveway, out of an argument about whether that counted. Pitching their questions at their own level means an eight-year-old can take a real turn without an adult quietly feeding them the answer, and the game keeps moving. Same categories, same card, questions they have actually got a shot at.

QuokkaQuiz is free and lives on a phone at the table. Keep your board, your pieces and whatever house rules you have accumulated — just draw from these decks instead of the box. The deck deals like a real card box, so nothing comes back around until you have been through the lot. One premium theme is free to play every week, and cricket comes around regularly, so you can put it in front of the family tonight without paying for anything.
