Western Australian trivia questions that know the west exists
Trivia written on the east coast has a habit of stopping at the Nullarbor. Ask a general knowledge deck about Australia and you will get Sydney, Melbourne, the reef, and then a polite silence — as though the largest state on the map were somewhere questions go to die. The west has its gold rushes and its ports, a coastline you could lose a small country in, and a long cheerful history of threatening to leave the federation. It deserves a deck of its own.
So we wrote one. Western Australia is two decks of original cards — one for adults, one pitched at kids 8 and up — using the same six familiar categories, from Arts and Literature through to Entertainment. The subject matter, though, is all west: the goldfields and the mining towns, the writers and the bands, the wildflowers and the wildlife, the clubs people barrack for and the beaches they will argue about with anyone who has never been.
The kids deck is the one that surprises people. Children who grow up over here know their quokkas and their black swans and the shape of their own coastline long before anyone asks them to find Canberra on a map, and there is genuine pleasure in watching an eight-year-old answer something the visiting relatives cannot. Same card structure, same six categories, questions pitched so their turn is a turn rather than a pause while somebody helps.
QuokkaQuiz is a free companion you open on a phone at the table — keep your board, your pieces and your rules, and draw from these decks instead of the box. Below are eight real cards straight out of the Western Australia decks, four from each side, so you can see how the questions feel before you play a single round.
